Nightfire is thrilled to be publishing Echo, a new novel from Hugo Award-winning author Thomas Olde Heuvelt, in February 2022, and a new edition of Hex, Olde Heuvelt’s acclaimed horror novel, in September 2021!

Nick Grevers and his climbing buddy Augustin are drawn to the Maudit, a remote mountain peak in the Swiss Alps. Documentation on the mountain is scarce, its slopes are eerily quiet, and when they enter its valley, they get the ominous sense that they are not alone.

Something is waiting for them…

Not long after, Nick wakes from a coma to find Augustin dead. Nick’s own face is maimed and wrapped in bandages. A long rehabilitation awaits, but Nick soon realizes that it isn’t just the trauma of the accident that haunts him.

Something has awakened inside of him…

Plus: a fresh repackaging of Hex, Olde Heuvelt’s acclaimed English language debut:

Whoever is born here, is doomed to stay ’til death. Whoever settles, never leaves.

Welcome to Black Spring, the seemingly picturesque Hudson Valley town haunted by the Black Rock Witch, a seventeenth-century woman whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut. Muzzled, she walks the streets and enters homes at will. She stands next to children’s beds for nights on end. Everybody knows that her eyes may never be opened or the consequences will be too terrible to bear.

The elders of Black Spring have virtually quarantined the town by using high-tech surveillance to prevent their curse from spreading. Frustrated by being kept in lockdown, the town’s teenagers decide to break their strict regulations and go viral with the haunting. But, in so doing, they send the town spiraling into dark, medieval practices of the distant past.

Miriam Weinberg, editor at Nightfire, told us:

“I’m so thrilled to be working with Thomas Olde Heuvelt on his next works in English translation–I’d been a (terrified!) fan of Hex, with nightmares aplenty, and I’m excited to be kicking off a new round of terror with Echo. Thomas is the rare horror writer that manages to imbue his characters with lifelike pathos, without losing any of the frenetic build of suspense. We’re proud to have him as a star in our Nightfire firmament, and expect to see more great things from across the Atlantic.”

  1. Can you release HEX as a Hardcover with that amazing cover?

That way it will match all of his other books when they come out
