I’m gonna be honest, I only watched about half of this trailer, and most of it was through my fingers while muttering “Don’t go in the house, John Cho” in a low whine. I can read the most deeply messed-up, jump-scare-laden horror fiction you’ve got on the page, but my tolerance for scares on screen is embarrassingly low. I know, I know, it’s a character flaw.
In case you’re confused, here’s how this version fits in with the larger Grudge-verse: The Grudge 2020 is a reimagining of the American film series (which consisted of three films, the first of which came out in 2004), which is itself based on the larger Japanese Ju-on film franchise. So the upcoming movie isn’t a remake (refreshing, in a film landscape laden with remakes) – it’ll feature a new cast of characters and a new ghost.
